Mushroom Kingdom Fusion Wiki

It's simple. Evil must be defeated.
― Zero, Mega Man X6 (2001)

Zero is an unlockable playable character in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. He can be unlocked via a hidden boss fight, accessible by completing T'leth.

Background[]

Zero was the ultimate creation of Dr. Albert W. Wily, who intended for him to destroy his rival Dr. Thomas Light's ultimate creation, Mega Man X. For unknown reasons, Wily never finished Zero, who was sealed into a capsule along with a powerful computer virus known only as the Robot Destruction Program.

Zero was sealed away for approximately 100 years. During this time, advanced robots known as Reploids, based on X's design, had become ubiquitous in society. When a group of Reploids awoke Zero, he was uncontrollably violent and destroyed them and a group of investigating Maverick Hunters, elite Reploids responsible for destroying malfunctioning or dangerous Reploids. Ultimately, he was defeated by the leader of the Maverick Hunters, Sigma. However, both were infected with the virus during the battle.

After Zero was repaired, he was examined by Dr. Cain, the creator of the Reploids, and demonstrated no further Maverick behaviour. He then joined the Maverick Hunters and was placed into Sigma's 17th Elite Unit for monitoring. As a Hunter, Zero demonstrated overwhelming strength, calmness under pressure, and a strong sense of justice. He was eventually promoted to Special A-class, the same rank as Sigma.

However, Sigma later became a Maverick, possibly influenced by the virus, and led most of the Maverick Hunters in a rebellion against humanity. During the subsequent conflict, Zero assisted X and ultimately sacrificed himself to help him defeat Vile. Zero's brain chip miraculously survived the destruction of his body, but not even Dr. Cain was able to repair his body.

Six months after X defeated Sigma and his rebellion, the Maverick group X-Hunters began a second rebellion and attempted to rebuild Zero as a Maverick. Serges, an X-Hunter with a mysterious connection to Dr. Wily, built new parts for Zero that matched his original specifications and created the Z-Saber to supplement the Zero Buster. X recovered Zero's parts from the X-Hunters, allowing Dr. Cain to rebuild him.

Near the end of the conflict, it was revealed that the X-Hunters served Sigma, who had become one with the computer virus that infected him. Though X defeated Sigma once again, the Sigma Virus proved to be a persistent threat nearly impossible to eradicate. Zero and X continued to fight Sigma and the Maverick threat in many subsequent conflicts.

Gameplay[]

Zero looks and uses gameplay very close to his MMX3 incarnation, though his sword is moved to the fire button, while his buster functions with the run button. He retains Vile's basic mobility and dash options, as well as stomping/swimming.

Zero is able to charge up both his buster and sword, though only one at a time. His buster functions just as it did in MMX3, while his sword can be charged into a larger, more powerful slash.

Like in MMX3, Zero can charge up to 2 stored charged attacks. He can even switch between powered up shots and sword swings, allowing for crude combination attacks between ranged and melee.

Trivia[]

  • If the player cleared a level with Zero, the "Stage Clear" music from the 2001 PlayStation game Mega Man X6 plays.
    • Prior to the v0.91 Rev 02 update of MKF, if the player cleared a level with Zero, the "Stage Clear" music from the 1994 (1993 in Japan) SNES game Mega Man X plays. He also shared this theme with Vile, who also had his "Stage Clear" music updated.
  • Zero received a gameplay revamp in the v0.91 update and is no longer a clone character of Vile.
  • In v0.8, there is a glitch that, if the player has purchased Zero and Vile, makes it so that they become unplayable again and you have to purchase them all over again. It is unknown how to trigger this glitch, but it might have something to do with saving when the game turns the computer black.
