Layout[]
The Mushroom Kingdom Coalition arrives at a construction site, where they are greeted by Dr. Wright, who views them as the demolition crew being sent to tear down a tower being constructed. He also teaches them the main gimmick of the level, which is to tear down the walls by using bombs. In order to detonate the bombs, the player has to stand next to one by pressing UP. In addition to the walls, the bombs can also destroy the climbable ladders. The first two sections require the player to destroy all the walls to reveal a key, which unlocks the next path.
Throughout the construction site, the player will have to deal with various obstacles and enemies, such as Fireballs and Eggplant Men, that run around and climb up and down the ladders. There are also Bucket Men, enemies disguised as garbage cans who wander around.
The second area becomes more complex as the path is blocked by red walls and has no normal way of breaking through. Dr. Wright informs the player that they need a special kind of heat that can break through the red walls. It is revealed that Fireballs can break through those walls, and to summon one, the player Fireballs can use a Fire Rod (or is equipped with a fire-based powerup) to shoot fire at an oil drum to have a Fireball shoot out. Once the path has been broken, the player must continue their way through the construction site while avoiding more enemies and obstacles.
The third area features more strategic puzzle-solving as the player must continue to destroy the walls to reveal keys that unlock the next section of the area. There is also a blue door, which allows the player to restart if they are unable to destroy all the walls.
The fourth area is more linear as the player continues their journey through the construction site, though they are introduced to climbing chains, in which the shorter ones cause the player to lose their grip more quickly.
At the next area, the player again meets up with Dr. Wright, who reveals that Foreman Spike is responsible for the construction of the tower despite being hired for its demolition. Dr. Wright advises the player to avoid any contact with Foreman Spike, who will attack with his mallet and is invincible to the player's attacks. The player must then climb up the area and detonate the bombs while evading Foreman Spike, who will continuously chase the player up and down the ladders. The player can enter a blue door to reset the area should they mess up the puzzle and not blue up all the walls. Once the player is successful in destroying all the walls, a key appears at the top of the area, which leads to the next area.
It is revealed that Donkey Kong is on top of the construction site and causing mayhem by throwing an endless supply of barrels down the player's path. On top of that, Foreman Spike is still on the hunt and tries to hinder the player's progress. The player must platform up and down the area and destroy all of the walls while dodging both Donkey Kong's barrels and Foreman Spike. Once all of the walls are destroyed, a larger barrel is revealed at the bottom of the area, which the player must continuously throw upward to the top of the stage. Once there, the player can throw the barrel at Donkey Kong to damage him, as this is the only way to deal damage as he is immune to all other attacks. In addition, Donkey Kong's barrels cannot be touched or destroyed and can only be avoided. Once Donkey Kong is damaged by the larger barrel, another larger barrel appears at the bottom of the stage. The player must repeat the process two more times to defeat Donkey Kong. After the last barrel damages Donkey Kong, both he and Foreman Spike are defeated as both fall off the stage. A key is revealed as the player unlocks the next area, which includes the flagpole to clear the level.
