“Same thing I always do... Crush anyone and anything who gets on my bad side!”
― Vile, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (2005)
Vile is a secret playable character in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. He's one of the stronger secret characters, but only has a few powerups.
Vile is unlocked via a secret boss fight accessible by completing the regular exit of Mimiga Caverns. The Black Switch Palace must also have been cleared to access the fight.
Background[]
Vile was originally a Special A-class Maverick Hunter of the 17th Elite Unit, the same unit as Zero. However, he was extremely ruthless and violent when dispatching Mavericks and was more concerned with enjoying the hunt then eliminating threats. Because of this, he was branded a Maverick and arrested. However, he was freed when Sigma, the leader of the Maverick Hunters, rebelled against humanity.
During Sigma's rebellion, Vile confronted Mega Man X in a Ride Armor and easily overpowered him, but was forced to retreat by Zero. Later, Vile confronted X and Zero in Sigma's hideout and lured Zero into a trap. Just as he was about to destroy X, Zero broke out of the trap and sacrificed himself to destroy Vile's Ride Armor. With renewed resolve, X fought and destroyed Vile.
When the Reploid scientist Dr. Doppler went Maverick, he revived Vile in a new body known as Vile Mk. II. He confronted X once again and was defeated, but swore that he would haunt him until the he dies. True to his words, he later returned as Vile V and started the Jakob incident by kidnapping the new generation Reploid Lumine. In the end, however, he was defeated once more.
Gameplay[]
Vile has a unique gameplay mechanic in that he plays just like he does in Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X. He has the ability to dash on the ground and in mid-air for a speed increase. Similar to Link, he also has a health meter. Vile has knockback comparable to Arthur.
Vile comes equipped with three weapons: one each for his arm, shoulder cannon, and leg. While his arm buster does not require ammo, his cannon and leg weapons run off a shared energy meter. This can be refilled by acquiring weapon energy.
- Arm: Vile fires a buster shot forward. It has fireball strength and consumes no ammo.
- Shoulder Cannon: A large blast is used. It's much stronger, but has a slight delay and uses significant ammo.
- Leg: Vile drops a grenade. If it hits the ground, it splits and flies a bit in opposite directions. It's weaker than the shoulder cannon, but uses less ammo.
Vile shares the universal abilities of picking up and throwing SMB2 style, using guns, and picking up shells & keys. Vile also possesses the abilities to swim and stomp.
Similar to Wario and Arthur, Vile gains a speed boost when using a Starman.

Trivia[]
- If the player cleared a level with Vile, the "Stage Clear" music from the 2005 game Mega Man Maverick Hunter X plays.
- Prior to the v0.91 Rev 02 update of MKF, if the player cleared a level with Vile, the "Stage Clear" music from the 1994 (1993 in Japan) SNES game Mega Man X plays. He also shared this theme with Zero, who also had his "Stage Clear" music updated.
- Vile received a gameplay revamp in the v0.91 update.
- If Vile grabs a Starman, the music heard is Vile's Theme from Mega Man X3.
- In v0.8, there is a glitch that, if the player has purchased Vile and Zero, makes it so that they become unplayable again and you have to purchase them all over again. It is unknown how to trigger this glitch, but it might have something to do with saving when the game turns the computer black.
