Tree Zone Trek is the 2nd secret level in the Mushroom Kingdom. It is based on the Tree Zone levels from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.
Layout[]
Tree Zone takes place in a giant oak tree populated by many, oversight insects and other wildlife. This is the second place that Mario goes to get the Golden Coin in the original game.
The first area takes place in the center of the tree as the player will climb around using the leaves pipes and branches while dealing with Piranha Plant and the insects enemies, such as Antottos and Bes. Once the player makes it to the top, enter the pipe to the next area.
In the checkpoint area, the player can choose one of the two routes below:
- If the player chooses the upper route, it will lead inside a bee hive that is populated by Bees and caterpillar-like enemies, such as Grubbies and Uneras, meaning that the player must be alert of the Bees' responding area. The player can also swim on the honey that is scattered throughout the area.
- If the player chooses the lower route, it will lead inside a tree sap, where the player can swim in maple syrup while dealing with additional enemies, such as the cow-like fish and the Noko Bombettes.
After passing one of the two routes, the player will need to ride on top of the friendly owls called Heavy Zeds to reach the top of the last area.
The last area takes place in a crow's nest on top of the tree, where the player will fight the level's boss, Radonkel the Crow. After defeating the large crow, the level is cleared.

Trivia[]
- Originally, this level only featured the tree sap area and the bee hive area. Since the v0.75 update, a new area is added in the beginning of the level, which is actually from a removed level called Tree Zone (itself a remake of the Tree Zone level of the original SML2 game). Also, the player can no longer visit both the tree sap area and the bee hive area at the same time and can only choose which area to visit when playing the level.
- There was previously an auto-scroll section in the tree sap area but was removed after the level was revamped.
- Paragoombas and Venus Fire Traps were originally found in this level but were removed while Fighter Flies were added in.
- Since the Version 0.75 Update, whenever the player attacks Radonkel, he now makes a bird screech sound, which originally came from defeating Neckies and Mini-Neckies in the 1994 SNES game Donkey Kong Country.
- Some of the sets and gimmicks of this level are later reused in Alloyed Forest.
- The since-cancelled sister project Super Mario Fusion: Revival also features a level based on the Tree Zone area in SML2.
