Tower of Babel is the 8th level in The Demon Realm and it is based on the level of the same name from DOOM.
Layout[]
This level takes place in the canyons of Deimos with a huge, hellish tower on top and the red sky in the background. In DOOM Episode 2: The Shores of Hell, Doom Slayer traveled through Deimos after getting ambushed by the hell demons in Phobos. He battled more of the demons before making it to his last destination, the Tower of Babel, to face his greatest foe, the half-demon, half-cyborg Cyberdemon. The level layout and goal are similar to those in Episode 2, as the Mushroom Kingdom Coalition needs to make their way through this tower to confront the demon beast on top in order to escape the Tainted Wasteland.
The first area takes in the tower's exterior, where the player must climb their way to the top of the canyons while fighting off common demon enemies, such as Imps, Lost Souls, Skeletons, Cacodemons. As the player makes their way to the top, they enter the tower and go to the next area.
In the second area, the player is in the tower as they travel through a blood sewer river, full of many red worms underwater in the background, as they need to swim the blood river while dealing with the Ghostly Eyeballs and Cacodemons swimming by. Once they make it to the other side and exit the blood river, the player enters a portal to the next area. There is also a secret area behind the hidden walls near the eye symbol, where a key and a keyhole allows the player to unlock a pathway to Volkmire's Inferno on the map.
The third area is the most challenging as the player needs to climb up the floors of the tower using the elevator platform, which is riddled with instant-death lava, spike-laden walls and lots of demon enemies to endanger the player. After that, the player jumps off the platform before it lands on the lava to continue going to the top as they fight the Minotaur-looking demon known as Hell Knight, which attacks by charging at the player and throwing green fire at them. After defeating the Hell Knight, the player continues to climb up more as they need to cross through the lava pit while dealing with the Pain Elemental shooting Lost Souls at them.
After finally arriving on top of the tower, the player enters the last checkpoint area to prepare themselves before entering the door.
The last area is a fight against the Cyberdemon, who will try to end the player's little journey by firing many rockets at them with his rocket gun arm before stopping to reload. The player will be using the DOOM Rocket Launcher around the area to fire back at him, but the rocket launcher only has 5 shots of ammo, so don't waste them. After taking enough damage, Cyberdemon will roar one last time before exploding, leaving nothing but his foot behind a puddle of blood. The level is completed as the other portal is opened for the player to escape the Tainted Wasteland and go to Profaned Heights section on the map next.
Tips and Tricks[]
- Bring a Hammer Bros. Suit along for defense against the Imp's fire attack. One is provided in the third part of the level.
- There are Shotguns in some areas to help defeat some of the demon enemies like Cacodemon quickly.
- The Cyberdemon has a huge weakness: pumpkins. Pull one out of the ground and drop it from above him to hit him multiple times. To make this even faster, fire the rockets at the monster.
- For a Speedrun boss strategy, use Link and equip him with the Sci-Fi suit and the Anti-Knockback assist item. From there, use upward attacks on Cyberdemon and spam many rockets on him

Trivia[]
- In older versions of MKF, the first two areas of Tower of Babel were used in the prototype known as Super Mario MF. Some minor changes were made between versions.
- Part of the third section of the level was originally designed to be passed by using the Tanooki Suit's statue form. When it was decided that not all characters would use an invincible statue form for the suit's alternate power, the area was remodeled to accommodate this.
- The Tower of Babel is a story told in the Book of Genesis of the Tanakh (also referred to as the Hebrew Bible) meant to explain the origin of different languages. According to the story, a united humanity of the generations following the Great Flood, speaking a single language and migrating from the east, came to the land of Shinar.
- The music heard in this area is a remix of the Sinister theme from the DOOM games. The music heard in the 3rd area (where the player enters the tower) is the Great Red Spirit theme from the 2005 game Dynasty Warriors 5.
- The current tileset for the interiors is a recolor from the arcade game Willow. Previous versions used the castle tileset from Super Castlevania IV, which is now used in Halls of the Damned.
- The static portal door are from the Quake series.
- In the third area of the old version of Tower of Babel, the players can see a tortured Baron of Hell on the wall before writing the platform elevator. This is reference to the starting area of the original Tower of Babel in DOOM.
- In very early versions of MKF, Goombas had their default appearance and were not reskinned to blend in with the level's theme.
- Cacodemons had a different sprite in very early versions of MKF.
- In older versions of MKF, this was the fortress 4-F1 level in the Demon Realm but was changed to the 8th level in a newer version of the game.
- Koopa Troopas, Volcano Lotuses, Thwimps, Fangs, Spikes, Buzzy Beetles, Snifits and Bullet Bills were originally found in very early versions of this level but were removed and replaced with other enemies, mostly from the DOOM series as this is a DOOM-based level.
- In the v0.88 update, the following enemies were removed from the level: Anemones, Reapers, and Reapettes.
