The Highlands is the 10th level in Alternate Earth, taking place in Scotland.

Layout[]

In this level, the player crosses the wide plains of the Scottish Highlands while avoiding the abundance of wild life. There are also extraterrestrial life, such as the Korath III citizens from Commander Keen 5, who have seized control of the area so beware of their presence as well. The secret exit of this level is hidden somewhere in this section.

In the second area, the player will need the help of Tessie, a friendly long-necked monster from Earthbound, to cross the river Etive, which is not entirely safe to swim in due to the many Jelectros that populate the water. Expect some athletics and more action as more Rebel Soldiers and other enemies stand in the way. There is also a maze-like platform that have many Munchers on the ground, requiring the player to grab a Starman to safely run pass them. After safely navigating the river with Tessie, the player finally reaches the flagpole and clears the level as the player is then sent out on a mission by the Peregrine Falcon Squad in Russian.

Trivia[]

Cheep Cheeps and the Creeper from Minecraft were originally in this level but were removed.
The background originates from the 1995 arcade game P-47 Aces.
The tileset comes from the 1993 SNES game Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind.
In the v0.875 update of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, the following enemies were removed from the level: Chain Chomps and Ravens.
In the v0.90 update of MKF, the following enemies were removed: Nop-03 Sarubia and Rebel Rifleman
Buster Balls, Vorticons, Red Chompers and Spiteful Crows were previously absent from the level.
