The Grand Canyon is the 1st level in Alternate Earth and is based on the Grand Canyon National Park in the United States. Located in Arizona, it is home to much of the immense Grand Canyon, with its layered bands of rock revealing millions of years of geological history with the view of the Colorado River to see.
Layout[]
The player starts at the cave where they left off at the world exit from Goomba Mines in World 1. They have to do some simple platforming while avoiding Monty Moles and other enemies along the way to exit the cave.
The main area of this level take place outside in daylight with the view of the Colorado River in the background. The player does some more platforming and exploring while fighting some Mario enemies, local animals and a few soldiers that attack them with realistic looking weapons. At the end, the player jump on a ? Block to reveal a ladder. From there, they climb up to the last area, which features a flagpole to complete the level.

Trivia[]
- The tileset used for the stage comes from the 1995 SNES game Castlevania Dracula X.
- Prior to the v0.75 update that revamped this level, the following enemies were originally located in this level but were removed: Spiders from Adventure Island, Hidegons from Bubble Bobble, Paragoombas, Hammer Bros, Boomerang Bros, Buster Beetles, and Spikes. Very early versions of MKF had blue versions of Hoopsters that could be stomped on, but they were replaced with Spiders.
- Goombas originally had their default appearance in this level before they used a cacti-like skin.
- Originally this level had Snails from Adventure Island, but they have been replaced with the Snails from Fantastic Dizzy.
- Birdo used to be a mini-boss in this level before she was removed in v0.8.
