Spiral Tower is the 12th level in the Mushroom Kingdom and is based on the Sky Tower level from Super Mario Bros. 3.
Layout[]
This level takes place in a tower where the player's main goal is to get pass the tower to reach the Sky World of the Mushroom Kingdom.
The first area takes place outside of the tower with a view of the lake in the background for a bit. Here, the player will first encounter a Buster Beetle, a Buzzy Beetle that will throw blue bricks at the player but can be stomped to be defeated instantly unlike the regular Buzzy Beatles. Other enemies encountered here include the Piranha Plants, Hammer Bros, and Chain Chomps. At the end of the area, the player enters the door to the tower.
The second area takes place inside the tower, which has fortress-styled base. The player must dodge more enemies and hazards, such as Rotodiscs, Thwomps, and Dry Bones, in order to reach the pipe to the next floor.
The third area of the tower contains lava on both the floor and the ceiling and Podoboos are seen hopping out of the lava in order to prevent the player from moving on. Boos are also here to further sidetrack players. This floor also contains a key that the player will need to collect before they can enter a pipe to move on to the next floor.
The fourth area of the tower is a very fast-paced, platforming section, with donut blocks being the only floor that players can step on for most of the section. More Rotodiscs and Boos appear along with Bony Beetles which are skeleton version of Buzzy Beetle that can resonate it self after being stomped on like Dry Bones. At the end of this area, there are two pipe to choose to take:
- If the player takes the blue pipe on top, it will first leave them at the bottom of the room with two Chain Chomps before going to the left side. Then the player moves to the right while avoiding the Rotodiscs and Thwomps to get the key that opens the gate to the next main area.
- If they pick the green pipe, it will led them to some bonus Rupees around the ground before taking them back to the main path.
The last area takes place outside on the top of the tower with a view of Rift Valley in the background. This is an aerial platforming section with the spinning platforms and more enemies to watch out for, such as Fire Bros and Pile Driver Micro-Goombas. Here, the player climbs up to the clouds above that lead them to a pipe, which leads to the flagpole that clears the level. As a result, the player now can enter the Sky World section on the map.
In order to get to World 8, the player has to find and hit the hidden rainbow ? Block in the last main area. Towards the end of the area on the top right, there is a black door with a Broom Hatter in it. If the player is successful in finding and hitting the rainbow ? Block, the path to this area is unlocked and they will enter the World Exit area.
This new exit area takes place in the Sky World of Planet Popstar from the Kirby series. Here, the player will explore this cloudy area while dealing with both the Mario enemies and the Kirby enemies, such as Waddle Dee and Bronto Burt.
At the end of this area, the player will fight the large, eyeball-like monster Kracko who attacks by sweeping down, shooting lightning underneath and popping out Shy Guys that also can be picked up and thrown at him. The Shy Guys are spawned just in case the player doesn't have a power up equipped or or if they lost their powerup by getting damaged since Kracko is immune to being stomped due to the spikes around his body. After Kracko's defeat, the player reaches the flagpole to clear the level and now has access to World 8 on the map.

Trivia[]
- The original name of this level was "Sky Tower".
- In earlier versions of this level, there was no secret exit area, which featured all the Kirby enemies.
- Originally, this level looked like a more typical SMB3 fortress before its redesign to a SMB3-style outside sky appearance in the v0.7 update.
- Mouser was originally a mini-boss in this level but was later removed.
- SMB3 Koopa Troopas, and Banzai Bills were originally found in this level but were removed in the v0.82 update.
- Dry Bones were originally absent from this level.
- Starting with the v0.875 version of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, the path to this level on the World 1 map is blocked, preventing the player from completing World 1 in a more linear way without completing any of the other Worlds. To unblock the path on the map, the player is required to defeat at least one World Boss located in any of the other worlds. Once a World Boss is defeated, the path to Spiral Tower has been unblocked and the player can chose to enter the level.
- The player needs to defeat at least one of the following World Bosses in order to unlock the path to Spiral Tower: General Morden in World 2, Dr. Eggman in World 7, Dr. Wily in World 3, or Loki in World 4.
- The paths to the other World Bosses are inaccessible, including Bowser, who is World 1's World Boss since the path to him is blocked.
