History[]
Retro Bowser first appeared in the classic NES game Super Mario Bros., where he was the boss of each castle. In future installments of the mainline Mario series, a similar battle with Bowser was featured in games, such as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels and New Super Mario Bros..
Role In MKF[]
In Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, Retro Bowser appears as the first section mini-boss of Subspace Adventure and is fought similarly to his SMB1 counterpart, which the player must dodge Retro Bowser's fireballs and trigger the axe to defeat him.
Strategy:[]
Avoid Retro Bowser's fireballs, The player must run through to the axe to defeat him. If the player is equipped with projectile-based attacks, they can also use them to deal damage to Retro Bowser to defeat him as another way to defeat him.
Trivia[]
- It's possible that this Bowser was actually a clone (further referencing the Fake Bowsers in each World castle except 8 and D in the original Super Mario Bros) as the real Bowser was already fought in the last level of World 1, Hell Prominence. Another Bowser clone, Dry Bowser, was fought earlier in Dry Bowser's Crypt.
- Retro Bowser was originally removed after the level Lost in Retro was revamped and renamed Retro Road starting with the v0.82 update. In his original form, the player couldn't just quickly jump over him or run pass him as he jumped to reach for the axe to tear down the bridge. The player had to actually fight Retro Bowser while dodging his many fireballs and hammers. Fortunately, there were Koopa Troopas that fall from the top the stage and the player could use their shells as weapons against Retro Bowser. Of course, if the player was already equipped with projectile-based power-up, they too can deal some damage to Retro Bowser. However, Spinies could also fall from the top of the ceiling. If the player dealt enough damage to Retro Bowser, the axe would suddenly show up thus giving the player the opportunity to finally destroy the bridge Retro Bowser was standing on.
