Radonkel the Crow is the boss of Tree Zone Trek, a secret level in World 1: The Mushroom Kingdom,
History[]
Radonkel's first and only appearance was in Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins for the Game Boy. There, Radonkel guarded one of the six Golden Coins, which had been cleverly hidden inside of one of its eggs. Radonkel was featured in the Tree Zone, which is the source material for its Mushroom Kingdom Fusion appearance in Tree Zone Trek.
In MKF[]
In Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, Radonkel appears as the level boss of Tree Zone Trek, a secret level in World 1: The Mushroom Kingdom. Since Tree Zone Trek is based on the Tree Zone of SML2, it seems fitting that its boss would appear in the level. Although in MKF, Radonkel does not seem to have any incentive to attack the Coalition, other than they are there.
To defeat him, the player must wait until he swoops down from the sky to attack and then jump on him. He fights much like he does in his original Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins appearance but takes more than three hits to take him down. Plus, he has a additional attack of throwing his feathers at the player when he's low on health.
Trivia[]
- Since the v0.75 Update, whenever the player attacks Radonkel, he now makes a bird screech sound which originally comes defeating Neckies and Mini-Neckies in the 1994 SNES game Donkey Kong Country.
- Radonkel is one of several bosses that could also be fought in both MKF and its long-cancelled sister project Super Mario Fusion: Revival.
- Radonkel gets his name from the German translation of SML2. In Japan, he is named Kurosu (translated as "Black Crow") while in America, he is simply known as "Big Bird" (the same name as the famous character from the long-time popular children's show Sesame Street).
