Pinball Zone is the 4th secret level in World 8: Avenue of Memories. The level is based on the level of the same name in the 2001 Game Boy Advance game, Wario Land 4.
Layout[]
This level takes place at Ruby Passage in the Golden Pyramid, which is the main setting of Wario Land 4. In the original game, Wario had to save Princess Shokora from the money-crazed Golden Diva and do what he does best, collect as much treasure as he could.
The main gimmick featured in this level is that the player must find Chomp Balls scattered throughout the area and insert them into pinball tulips. Also, each area has a pinball digital counter which states how many pinball tulips are reaming in a room. Afterwards, a pinball digital counter blocking the exit becomes accessible after the countdown reaches zero and the player advances to the next area.
Many WL4 enemies, such as Totsumen and Robotbirds, will respond back to the spot after they were defeated after a set of time. The level also features Rainbow Thwomps, which are invincible to all kinds of attacks and are only used to solve some of the pinball puzzles where the player can take advantage of their stomp to make the chomp ball jump up to the correct spots and make it to the tulips.
In one of the rooms, the player will have to get frozen by the Yeti by letting them sneeze on them, after which they turn into an ice cube to side across the floor to break through the ice wall. This is a reference to Wario's reaction to his sudden transformations in WL4, more specifically Frozen Wario and Snowball Wario.
In the last major area, the player must step on a switch that activates a bomb, which suddenly gives them a time limit clock on the screen, and the player must clear the last pinball tulip to exit the area. If the player does not clear all the pinball tulips within the time limit, they lose a life. After escaping the last area, the player gets the flagpole to clear the level.
