Palace of Dark Delight is the 4th secret level in The Demon Realm and is based on the Quake series made by id Software. The player will need to clear the Blue Switch Palace first before entering.
Layout[]
The level takes place in a medieval-like fortress with many of the Runes symbols written on walls and chandeliers inside, under the dark brown sky outside. In the original game story, the unnamed protagonist (called Ranger in Quake III Arena) is sent into a portal and travels to many different dimensions in order to stop an enemy code-named "Quake" after the government had been experimenting with teleportation technology called a Slipgate as the monsters started attacking into the 'human' dimension, supposedly in order to test the martial capabilities of humanity. This palace seems to appear in the middle of the Searing Mountain thanks to a fusion portal in the map, and the main goal of this level is to survive and get the Runes in order to escape the palace.
In the first area, the player will encounter various horrifying monsters, such as Scrags, Fiends, and Knights, who all have a lot of health to kill, but lucky for the player, they can use many new weapons, such as the Grenade Thrower, Nailguns and Lightning Gun, to clear out the monsters quickly. They can use strange portals that allow the player to enter new paths around the areas, although no weapons can be teleported upon entering one. The first task is to get a blue and an orange Skullkeys open a barrier blocking the portal leading to the next area.
After reaching the first checkpoint, the player will face four spider-like creatures called Vore that will shoot violet spiked pods that will constantly track their target until they hit something, exploding on contact. After killing all four Vore, get the skullkey to open the barrier and enter a portal to the next area.
The third area takes place inside of the palace, as before the players can progress, they shortly stop dead in track as the terrifying Shambler appears at the top of the palace, casing a rumble inside before leaving, as they will continue to explore and fight more enemies and can have the choice of either just heading to the following portals or collecting two more skullkeys, giving the player the chance to gain a 3-up-moon Rupees and a strong power-up.
When the player reaches the last checkpoint area of the palace, don't think the little nightmare trip is already over - oh no! The real fun is just ahead, as they will now be greeted by the Shambler himself! The player's only option is to run and use some of the railguns lying around this area to destroy the walls blocking the escape route. Be aware of the Shambler's electric beam attack as well as other monster enemies and hazards that try to stop them from escaping. The players can choose two options: survive and escape or kill the Shambler.
If they choose to just focus on surviving and escaping, the floor will start to break apart underneath as the Shambler will fall into the pits below at the end of the hallway.
If they choose to fight the Shambler instead, they will need to make smart use of the railguns and shoot at the monster chest a couple of times. Once it takes enough damage, it will roar one last time before collapsing to the ground as they pick up some huge reward for slaying the monster for good.
After dealing with the Shambler and entering the final portal, the player will pick up the runes to escape this nightmarish castle, clearing the level.

Trivia[]
- Prior to the v0.75 update of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, The Shambler was originally invincible to all attacks and the only way to defeat him was to reach the final portal before he does. Since the v0.75 version, it is now possible to actually defeat the Shambler before reaching the final exit to clear the level and get large amount of big purple rupees.
- The Shambler is the only boss in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion that the players can choose to defeat or escape from.
