Mythical Chai is the 6th level of Isle of Genesis. It is based on the Chai Kingdom world in Super Mario Land and the 1989 Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game Revenge of the Shinobi.
Layout[]
The Chai Kingdom is one of the places in Sarasaland that Mario travels to to rescue a princess, who is later revealed to be Princess Daisy, from the malevolent alien Tatanga. Due to the effects of the Fusion, the Chai Kingdom has fused with the world of Shinobi, where Joe Musashi and the Oboro Ninja clan do battle against the criminal organization known as Zeed.
The first area takes place at night in an Asian-inspired ancient village, filled with temples in the background, pipes, and bamboo, the latter of which can harm the player if touched on the edges like a spike trap. The area also features moving platforms that contain bamboo at the bottom. Ninja enemies, such as the Shuriken-throwing Omotes and the Ceiling Ninjas, come out of nowhere to attack the player. Enemies from the Mario series are here too, such as Ninjis and Pionpis.
The second area takes place in what appears to be daytime. The player encounters more of the ninja enemies and now must deal with Bullet Bills coming out of Bill Blasters attached to pipes. There are also bodies of water at the bottom of the area, but the player is warned not to go take a swim as going in the water causes the player to lose a life as if it were a bottomless pit.
Alternately, if the player can find a pipe located somewhere in the first section that leads to the secret area, they can find several keys, one of which leads to a secret exit keyhole. But it won't be too easy as the area is spit into two sections, with the latter section being auto-scrolled with various enemies hiding behind the walls to do a surprise attack on the player.
Early Development[]
Mythical Chai began as Oboro Village (also known as Ibaraki Province), which was a Battle Level located in World 7: Isle of Genesis and found in the South Island section. A Ninji was seen patrolling the map, and the player had to fight them and other ninja-themed enemies, such as Omotes, Ceiling Ninjas, and Scarecrow Gun Units.
In the v0.875 update of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, the battle level was replaced with North Town but its concept would be used in what became Mythical Chai in the v0.88 update.

Trivia:[]
- The Bill Blasters attached to pipes is a reference to the Bullet Biffs, a sub-species of Bullet Bills found in SML that fire out of Bill Blasters that come in out of pipes like Piranha Plants.
- A unique feature of this level is that when the player uses the Starman in the first area, the music playing is always a remix of "Galop infernal" from Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach (which was also used in the original game instead of the usual Mario invincible theme) instead of the character-specific invincible theme. This theme can also be heard in the levels Birabuto Bash, Muda Madness, and Easter Island, all of which are based on a world in SML.
- Several of the SML graphics are ripped from a custom Super Mario Bros. X level by Valtteri.
- This is the last SML-themed level in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion.
