Morton Koopa is one of the seven Koopalings of Bowser, serving as one of his underlings. In the older Mario games, the Koopalings were portrayed as Bowser's children, but that is no longer the case in more recent titles, starting with 2009's New Super Mario Bros Wii on the Nintendo Wii.
History[]
Morton and the rest of the Koopalings first appeared in the 1990 (1988 in Japan) NES game Super Mario Bros 3, where they (under Bowser's order) steal magic wands and turn the various kings of the Mushroom World into various creatures. Morton is fought in the desert-based World 2 and attacks the player by shooting spells with his magic wand that can harm the player. His attack pattern is exactly the same as Larry Koopa from World 1's Grass Land. After three stomps, Morton is defeated.
Morton and the other Koopalings return in Super Mario World where once again they help Bowser kidnap Princess Peach. Morton is the second Koopaling fought in Donut Plains. During the battle, the player has to stomp on Morton before he climbs on the ceiling and drop on the player. After stomping on Morton three times, he is defeated.
Apart from appearing as mini-bosses in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Morton and the other Koopalings were dormant for years before returning on a regular basis in the New Super Mario Bros series starting with New Super Mario Bros Wii. In those games, the Koopalings are fought in a similar fashion like in SMB3.
Appearance[]
Morton's sprite is his appearance in the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB3. He appears in the stage, Airship Armada, which is World 1-S15 in the world, The Mushroom Kingdom.
Morton's role in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is the same as it was in Super Mario Bros. 3. The player needs to stomp Morton five times while avoiding his attacks from a magic wand. After five hits, Morton will explode and the level is completed.
Trivia[]
- Morton was one of the three Koopalings that are featured as bosses in MKF. The others are Wendy O. Koopa and Roy Koopa. Since the removal of Airship Armada in the more recent V0.73 update of MKF, Morton is no longer a boss fought anywhere in the game.
