Legacy Link is an alternate version of Link. This version of Link will be a secret playable character in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. This version is also how Link originally played until he received a major gameplay revamp beginning in the v0.875 update of MKF.
He can be unlocked by completing Dream Forest.
Gameplay[]
- Legacy Link has a unique gameplay mechanic, best described as a combination of the Mario Bros. and Arthur. As such, Legacy Link can both run at variable speeds and has melee weapons. Legacy Link also suffers from knockback, but it's not very severe and he recovers after a short time.
- Legacy Link uses a Mario-style powerup system, where he loses the current suit he's wearing when he gets hit. Getting hit in his normal form will shrink him down. Once hit while small, a life will be lost.
- Legacy Link shares the universal abilities of picking up and throwing objects SMB2 style, using guns, and picking up shells and keys. However, he can't stomp and must rely on his weapons.
- Legacy Link has a melee attack at all times by pressing the fire button. He can also perform upward and downward thrusts in mid-air. The damage and reach of his attack varies by form.
- Legacy Link can use a shield to stop low-grade projectiles. Stronger suits have stronger shields, with only two of them lacking one: his Mega Man suit due to the extra HP in World 3 and his Cloud form in exchange for higher attack power and reach.

Power-Ups & Melee Weapons & Shields[]
Power-Ups[]
Legacy Link's Power-Up does not affect his Health, nor does he lose his Power-Ups if he's hit.
Power-Up | Form | Shop Cost | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Initial | Small Legacy Link | N/A | Legacy Link's initial form. Just like the Mario cast, he is smaller and can't break brick blocks. He can use the Master Sword while in this form. |
Lon Lon Milk | Regular Legacy Link | N/A | In this form, Legacy Link can break brickblocks. He can use the Master Sword while in this form. |
Boomerang | Boomerang Legacy Link | $250 | Press RUN to throw two projectiles at once (a regular and a magic boomerang), both of which can be aimed in 8-directions. The boomerangs can also retrieve coins and other low-tier items.
|
Deku Mask | Deku Legacy Link | $300 | Press RUN to shoot a Deku Nuts. There is about a 0.5 second delay between each shot Deku Nut.
Holding |
Bow and Arrows | Bow Legacy Link | $500 | Press RUN to shoot an Arrow. There is about a 0.25 second delay between each shot Arrow and do decent damage. Arrows can be aimed diagonally by holding UP and DOWN . Straight shot arrows stick into walls, acting as temporary platforms.
Shooting the bow disrupts Legacy Link's movement and has a slight lag before firing. Also, poorly aimed arrows can end up stuck in walls unintentionally, forcing the player to wait for them to fade before being able to fire again. |
Buster Sword | Cloud Legacy Link | $500 | Legacy Link's Slash is the Buster Sword, which has almost twice the reach of the Master Sword and a huge boost in attack power, but is also a lot slower. Slashing can destroy most enemy projectiles. His Downthrust and Upthrust also gain the ability to break bricks. |
Magic Sword | Classic Legacy Link | $600 | Press SHOOT to not only perform a Slash, but also throws a Magic Beam. Only one Magic Beam can be on the screen at a time.
Holding |
Magic Armor | Bomb Legacy Link | $750 | Press RUN throw a Bomb. Bombs explode on contact with an Enemy. Bombs stick to walls they make contact with. Bombs can destroy bricks. If Bombs don't make contact with an Enemy or Wall, the Bomb will take a couple milliseconds to explode. 1 Bomb can be on the screen at a time.
Crouching protects Legacy Link against fire attacks. |
Zero Suit | Zero Legacy Link | $750 | Press RUN to fire a Z-Buster Shot. 3 Z-Buster Shots can be on the screen at a time.
Hold and release the Hold |
Covenant Arbiter Suit | Arbiter Legacy Link | $1000 | Press RUN to throw a Void Maker Bomb. Void Maker Bombs sticks to Enemies and Surfaces. Takes a little over 1 second to explode. Void Maker Bombs can destroy bricks. 1 Void Maker Bomb can be on the screen at a time.
Includes a Rechargeable Energy Shield: when hit, and if you aren't hit for up to 6 seconds, the damage is ignored and Mario keeps the Power-Up. |
Melee Weapons[]
Legacy Link has access to different melee weapons, depending on what form he's in. These vary greatly in terms of power and reach.
Power-Up | Matching Power-Up[s] | Matching Form[s] | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Master Sword | Initial
Boomerang Bow and Arrows |
Regular Legacy LinkBoomerang Legacy LinkBow Legacy Link | The basic melee weapon most suits use. Amazingly average. |
Wooden Sword | Deku Mask | Deku Legacy Link | Same as the Master Sword aside from aesthetics. |
Buster Sword | Buster Sword | Cloud Legacy Link | Fast, does massive damage, has almost twice the reach of the Master Sword, and destroys many enemy projectiles when it's being swung. Legacy Link's most powerful sword, but he forsakes a shield and other attack options while using it. |
Magic Sword | Magic Sword | Classic Legacy Link | Classic Legacy Link's weapon. Very slightly stronger than the Master Sword. Also can throw a Magic Beam with it. |
Megaton Hammer | Magic Armor | Bomb Legacy Link | Slower, but stronger with more reach than the Master Sword. The hammer's thrust attacks don't gain any bonus damage, due to the hammer's blunt nature; just a reach extension. Can destroy bricks. |
Z-Saber | Zero Suit | Zero Legacy Link | Uncharged Z-Saber slashes are no more powerful than the Master Sword, but have a slightly longer attack range and destroy many weaker enemy projectiles. When charged, it sends out a short range laser slash in the direction Legacy Link is facing. |
Arbiter Energy Sword | Covenant Arbiter Suit | Arbiter Legacy Link | Legacy Link's Halo sword doesn't shoot beams as planned before, but he swings it faster than Mario, and his thrust attacks become downright nasty, greatly increasing in reach and power. |
Shields[]
Legacy Link also has use of a shield most of the time to stop weak projectile attacks. Higher-tier suits have stronger shields than lower ones.
Power-Up | Matching Power-Up[s] | Matching Form[s] | Description |

Trivia[]
- When Legacy Link grabs a Starman, the a Super Smash Bros Brawl remix of Tal Tal Heights theme from the 1993 Game Boy game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening plays.
- If the player clears a stage as Legacy Link, the "Great Victory!" theme from the 1992 (1991 in Japan) SNES game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past plays.
- When Legacy Link loses a life, the "Lost Life" theme from The Legend of Zelda plays.
- When Legacy Link gets an extra life, the "Item Get" sound effect plays. In earlier versions, the sound for accessing a secret was used as Legacy Link's extra life jingle. However, it was changed because it was too long.
- On the hub screen, Legacy Link's 1up icon resembles Link's original sprite from The Legend of Zelda (the first game of the Zelda series). Also, the font with Legacy Link's name comes from the same game.
- Between the v0.75 and v0.875 updates, Legacy Link was able to stomp on enemies the way some characters like Mario or Sonic could without the need to just rely on his downward thrust with his sword. Since his revamped gameplay in the v0.875 update, Legacy Link can no longer stomp on enemies with his regular jumps. This was also true in pre-v0.75 versions of MKF.
- When playing as Legacy Link, the "PLAYER START!" screen before a level starts is based on Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link.
- An earlier, beta name of Legacy Link was "Suit-Style Link" or "Link (Suit-Style)".
- Legacy Link temporarily had a heart-based health system, much like the original Link, before being changed to a powerup-based health system.
