Lake of Amnesia is the 4th level in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Layout[]
This level is a remix of the first two levels of World 2 of Super Mario Bros. and has become a desert wasteland. The desert theme area was first introduced in Super Mario Bros. 2, and since then, desert-themed levels and worlds have been featured in both future 2D and 3D games in the Mario series.
The first area is a desert version of World 2-1 in SMB1, as the player encounters some new enemies, such as mini Goombas that hop around with brick blocks while blending with the normal ones as a surprise attack and Monty Moles that pop out of the ground to chase the player. At the end of this area, enter the pipe to go to the next area.
The second area takes place in what used to be the underwater segment of World 2-2 before it all dried up, leaving only the coil reef behind as strong, sandy winds passed it through. The player will be pursued by the Angry Sun by swooping down at them. There are other enemies here too, such as the Fire Snakes that hop around and the undead Dry Bones that come back to life after being jumped on. At the end of the area, enter the pipe to the next area.
The third area is shorter than the first two areas and used to be a bridge seen in World 2-3 but now it's gone and has turned into another desert area. All the player has to do here is pass through some more enemies and get the flagpole to clear the level. Next up, the player enters an underground area in the next level due to the strong sandstone coming up.

Trivia[]
- This level was inspired by the Mushroomy Kingdom stage from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was a recreation of the first two stages of Super Mario Bros. that had become a desert, supposedly as a result of years of neglect and fighting.
- Originally, this level had a more realistic looking background with tilesets from the desert levels from New Super Mario Bros. In the v0.75 update of MKF, the level was redesigned to look more like a Super Mario Bros (SNES All-Stars version) style desert level. The level's background in the first area was further changed in the v0.8 version of the game.
- The Angry Sun was originally absent in this level.
- Beginning with the v0.81 version, the third section, which consisted of an underground section with water, was retooled and no longer takes place underground. As a result, the following enemies were removed from the level: Cheep Cheep, Spiny Cheep Cheep, Buzzy Beetle and Buster Beetle.
