Isle of Mystery is the 20th level in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Layout[]
This level takes place on a lonely island that is nearly devoid of wildlife. This was once a peaceful village island full of life and beauty before a fusion effect happened. Some of the Toads went to investigate as their island was devolving from plants and trees that were dying. The area was getting foggy, and many of the Toads and other creatures were starting to disappear. In a panic, they started to evacuate many of the Toads and other creatures off the island as the sky was turning red. One of the Toads takes the Mushroom Kingdom Coalition to this island to solve the mystery that's causing this horrible event.
The player will be dropped off by a Toad on the boat as they enter the island surface and see an abandoned Toad House as they meet a talking creepy flower called Gossipbush that is rare and only grows on this island. They have many creepy and weird conversations about the island as they enter a forest with some Munchers to jump over before running into a Gossipbush that that is worried about why all the life's started to disappear and a strange noise inside the cave singing a song as they enter the cave to find out.
Upon entering the cave, a Gossipbush is panicking about the sound getting louder and louder before jumping on some dead-colored mushrooms to the top as they go back outside of the cave as the fog is getting thicker and find a Toad cap head on the ground as the song is getting clearer and the players get a checkpoint and enter another area.
Once the fog was clear, the player saw a human lady sitting on a rock. At first, she was exciting to meet a new face and ask about the whereabouts of the Toad she was hanging out with. She was very lonely and a little...hungry, revealing that she's the one responsible for the horrible incident on this island. The lady, known as the Siren, stands up and tells them that she wants to sing a little lullaby before meeting their fate as she leaps into the air to start their battle. She attacks the player by spinning, kicking one side of the area, shooting some ice rocks at them, leaping in the air to try to stomp on them, and shooting a starlight projectile in the air before it spreads into different directions. The Siren's most deadly move is singing a song that creates some notes that chase the player around a bit, and if they get hit, it will paralyze them and leave them open for her next attack. The player also needs to watch out not to fall off the platform since they have a bed of munchers underneath. After taking enough damage, the Siren reveals her true demon-like face and kneels down in defeat. She is disappointed to be defeated by mere mortals who try to take one last bite and threaten that The Fusionist will destroy them before disappearing in a blue flame. The player has now cleared the level as they get off the island and go to Foul Fungi next on the map.
Alternatively, in order to get to World 5: Gehenna, the player first needs to swim down the ocean in the first area where the Toad drops them off, then find a key and enter the pipe that takes you back to the surface where the abandoned Mushroom House is, and unlock the door to enter the World 5 exit area.
Upon entering the house, the player noticed that the inside is almost completely gone; it's mostly been replaced by entering an underground cave.
The first area takes place inside the underground cave, full of ancient artifacts, spirits roaming around, and a few waterfalls in the background as the player explores the cave for a bit while dealing with the Mario enemies, such as Boos, Bony Beetles, and Buster Beetles, along with some new horror enemies like a mutant lobster called Chowmein-Conga that spits acid bubbles at the player and Ghosts that chase them around. Near the end of the first area, the player goes down a hole into the next area.
In the second area, the player lands a boat raft crossing by two spirits in a river cave as they begin it auto-scroll as they occasionally need to get off the boat and to the upper route as it is approaching to the bed of spikes getting in the way before getting back on for a bit and repeating the process while dealing with the enemies and avoiding the acidic spores from the Anemone. Upon reaching the end safely, the player sees several diamonds spelling out "W5" and enters a pipe that takes them out of the cave. Here, they witness a sea with some mountains and two celestial moons in the background as they first fight off a Forest Armor before getting the flagpole to clear the world exit area, and now they have access to Gehenna on the map.

Trivia[]
- After the level was revamped in the v0.8 update, the player now encounters eerie, plant-like NPCs called "Gossipbushes" instead of message blocks.
- Starting with the v0.88 update, if the player has visited the level for the first time, they first need to defeat the Siren before they try again to find the secret exit. If the player decides to enter the mushroom house before defeating the Siren for the first time, they are instead greeted by Professor Hector, who advises the player not to go down the path as it is blocked by Munchers. If the player has already defeated the Siren, both Hector and the Munchers are gone and the player can go down the path.
