Halls of the Damned is the 5th level of The Demon Realm and it is based on the DOOM series.
Layout[]
This level takes place in a hellish castle fort that serves as a gate to the Tainted Wasteland after the Mushroom Kingdom Coalition enters a portal here. This is the home of the Hell Demons that the main character of the DOOM series, Doom Slayer, fought a long time ago when the organization Union Aerospace Corporation performed a secret experiment on interdimensional travel that went horribly wrong and caused the demons to let loose and start a rampage on Phobos.
The opening area starts at the gate of the castle as a number of living soldiers start attacking the player, thinking that they are one of the demons.
The main area takes place inside the castle, with a purple wall light in the background and many hanging skeleton bodies. This area introduces many of the DOOM enemies, such as Imps, Pinkys, Cacodemons and the flame skulls, known as Lost Souls, that will chase the player and explode on contact. If the player needs more firepower, there are some shotguns lying around the area to help defeat the demons and the soldiers standing in the way while they are in the middle of a gunfight. While exploring the area, the player will need to find some of the Skull Keys in order to progress through this castle. At the end, the player gets the flagpole and clears the level as their next destination leads them into a toxic facility.
There is also a secret key hidden somewhere in the castle that will unlock the path to Blocks of Doom on the map.
Enemies[]
- Goomba (Mario; devil skin)
- Rebel Soldier (Metal Slug; Umbrella Officer skin)
- Rebel Rifleman (Metal Slug; Umbrella Officer skin)
- Imp (DOOM)
- Lost Soul (DOOM)
- Pinky (DOOM)
- Cacodemon (DOOM)
Trivia[]
- The Rebel Soldiers are reskinned as Umbrella Officers from Resident Evil. Previously, they were in the level Raccoon City but were removed when that level was replaced with Zombie Firestorm in a previous version of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion before being reinstated in the v0.82 version. However, the Umbrella-clad Rebel Soldiers don't return when the level was restored.
- The tileset for the level comes from Super Castlevania IV with the background from Super Metroid.
- The Rebel Soldier appearing in this level is a reference to Zombieman/Former Humans that were once Earth's soldiers or other formed of armed military personnel, but have been somehow turned undead/or have been possessed and now serve the demons they once fought in The DOOM series.
