Mushroom Kingdom Fusion Wiki

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Gehenna is the fifth world in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. Little is known about this enigmatic realm aside from being the limbo between worlds. The World Boss is The Fusionist. To access World 5, the player must complete the Isle of Mystery with the secret exit.

Plot[]

(Mainly TBA)

Gehenna, the world between worlds, is the place where the Mushroom Kingdom Coalition first meets The Fusionist in his lab.

After completing Sea of Muck for the first time, the Coalition encounters a strange witch who gives them all a vague warning before vanishing through a Fusion Portal. For some reason, she knows about Prof. Hector.

In Dreary Wastelands, the player encounters Prof. Hector next to a gravestone, who explains that it belongs to an important rebel leader who fought against Kothar, a god mentioned earlier in a Sea of Muck infobox.

In Rotten Eden, the player can spot Prof. Hector studying an Asherah Tree, the last vestige of life from the previous world. For some reason, it repeats a voice from a lady known as Ashima. After translating the message, Prof. Hector reveals that Ashima was waiting for her lover underneath the tree.

In Anomalous City, the Coalition encounters the witch again, who speaks in riddles before leaving again. The witch also talks about the lore of the one-eyed people who once dwelled in Gehenna, the Genna. At the halfway point, the player encounters Prof. Hector studying a ruined one-eyed statue covered in graffiti. This statue was carved by Ashima, who wanted to praise the beauty of the Genna's singular eye.

In Malviento Tundra, the witch and Prof. Hector have an argument before hinting at Prof. Hector's secret reason for stopping the Fusionist. Roll comforts Prof. Hector before the Coalition moves on. The player can find Prof. Hector revealing more lore about the Genna. They were forced to change into humans to satisfy Kothar's desires.

It is revealed that Overflown Relics is a monument to Kothar himself by Prof. Hector.

After completing Stygian River for the first time, Prof. Hector goes in-depth on why he knows so much. As it turns out, the Harbinger (a defector from the Fusionist's Finest) gave Prof. Hector everything he knows about the Fusionist before passing away. He also gives Prof. Hector a way to transport himself across dimensions and requests him to meet Princess Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom, kick-starting the plot of the game.

Description[]

This world takes its name from Gehenna, which is the same name of a landfill in ancient Judea known for its unquenchable fire. Earlier during the game's development, it was called Ocean of Oblivion and was slated to be a generic world of water levels, but was later changed into what it is now to fit the world's name.

Trivia[]

  • The World Boss of this World has changed three times throughout the game's development. Initially, it was supposed to be Beauty, but she was replaced by The Fusionist, who, in turn, has now been replaced by Cacobirdo as the Boss of World 5 until v0.92, where he fought before unleashing the Cacobirdo.
  • Prior to v0.8, the map of this world is based on two different images merged into one.
    • One of the sources is from the cover of the book The Haunter of the Dark and Other Grotesque Visions from the author H. P. Lovecraft.
    • The other source is a 3D landscape.
  • Before v0.8, The Shopkeeper from the game The Messenger ran the shop in this world. Starting with the v0.8 update, the shopkeeper was The Gypsy from Castlevania. Since v0.9, the shopkeeper now is now Trio the Pago Owner from Demon's Crest.
  • The "LEVEL COMPLETE" and "WORLD COMPLETE" script uses a font from the 1996 video game Strife.
  • Overflown Relics was originally a Battle Level until it was changed to a regular level in the v0.88 update.
  • The old defunct MKF Wiki revealed that the level Water Temple was planned to be located to this world before being settled in World 6: Adventurer's Domain. Also, one of the unused level names, Gerudo Desert, would later be revived as Gerudo Valley, which is also found in World 6.
  • According to the old wiki, early ideas for levels that never materialized include the following:
    • Prismatic Palace
    • Stone Tower Temple
    • Ship of the Damned
    • Alpha Leviathan
    • Castle Gehenna
    • Desert of the Knaaren
    • Another World
    • Castle Alexandra Siege
    • Battleship Halberd
    • Hollow Bastion
    • Nava/Marx Battle (likely based on the Kirby series)
    • New Pork City (likely based on Earthbound)
    • Mako Reactor
    • Giygas' Lair
    • Clash on the Big Bridge
    • Kefka's Tower
    • Subcon Panic Act 3 (SMB2-based level)
  • The world designation for Gehenna is #MKFX07, the initials come from Mushroom Kingdom Fusion and when the fangame was first released.
