Fortress of Doom is the 5th secret level in World 6, Adventurer's Domain. It is a Zelda 2/Lufia 2 hybrid with an emphasis on puzzles.
Layout[]
The player starts outside the fortress and has to locate the secret switch in order to open the gate. From there, the player enters a fortress filled with numerous enemies and must find hidden ? Blocks to create a bridge to connect to the next platform. There are also spike traps to look out for, as many of the paths are narrow. At the end, the player enters an elevator to advance to the next room, which features a portal leading to the next main area.
Next is a climb all the way to the top, interspersed with platforming challenges, such as riding on a Snake Block. Once the player reaches the top, they enter another room where they are required to solve a puzzle that flips the nine panels from red to gold. Once successful in solving the puzzle, the player is rewarded with a key that unlocks the red gate blocking the rest of the path. The rest of the area consists of tight platforms and more enemies to dodge with little room for error, as much of below consists of a bottomless pit. At the end, the player enters another portal, and the next room features another vertical climb from platform to platform with a portal at the top.
After reaching a short checkpoint area, the level ends with a tough showdown against the boss of the level, the Lord of Luna. Defeating him clears the level for the player.

Trivia[]
- In older versions of MKF, this level had Skeletons from Castlevania, Polyps from Crystalis, Woody Pigs from Ghosts N Goblins, and Serpents from Crystalis before they were replaced with other enemies. Moas and Buichis were also originally in this level but were removed while Henches, Rats and Bronzors were originally absent prior to the revamp.
- The area that featured the Lens of Truth blocks and Bomb bricks was removed in the v0.81 update. Another removed part of this level is the part where the player had to place a set of orbs on the grown which was hinted by an order of Thwomps and Buichis.
- The Lens of Truth blocks were later added in a section of Elemental Nexus in the v0.91 update of MKF.
- Originally, this level was the 4th fortress of World 6, located in the Majestic Territory section, before changed as a secret level and placed in the Realm of Secrets section. Angel Land, previously a World 8 level, took its original place on the map.
- Daos, one of the bosses in the 1993 SNES game Lufia & the Fortress of Doom was planned to be the boss of this level but was ultimately scrapped.
- Starting in the v0.91 version, the new boss Lord of Luna appears instead, Helmethead was relocated to a Elemental Nexus.
