The Egg Tumbler is the boss of World 7-1, Green Grove Zone. It is also the first boss in World 7: Mobius, and serves as the very first appearance in MKF of Dr. Ivo Robotnik. It is a 2-Dimensional version of the unnamed first boss from Sonic 3D Blast.
The Egg Tumbler spends most of the battle hovering around along the top of the screen, where the player can't reach it, only lowering itself down and putting itself in attack range during a specific part of it's attack pattern. It's attack pattern is remarkably simple: it first spends a brief moment attempting to position itself above the player, before dropping the massive spiked metal ball it carries onto the ground. The ball will tumble along the ground for a little while, actively moving towards the player. After that the ball will stop, and Robotnik will lower his machine down in order to pick it up, thus bringing himself into range for physical attacks. Once he picks up the ball, he will move back up to the top of the screen and repeat the process.
While his attack pattern does not change throughout the battle, when his hit points reach low levels, the metal ball will bounce rather than tumble, making it slightly more difficult to avoid. The player will most likely need to take advantage of the two platforms located along the sides of the arena in order to avoid it, but otherwise the behavior is exactly the same.
The Egg Tumbler can be harmed through numerous means, but a pair of stomp boots is provided just in case.
