Dungeon O' Doom is the 7th fortress in the Mushroom Kingdom and is based on the dungeons/fortress levels from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island for the SNES.
Layout[]
This level takes place in the brown-colored fortress around the autumn-like forest in the Koopa Kingdom. This is one of the many fortresses built on Yoshi Island that the Yoshi species travels to with Baby Mario. Kamek, a chief Magikoopa and loyal service/caretaker to Baby Bowser, predicted that two brothers, Mario and Luigi, would cause trouble for Bowser and the rest of the Koopa family in the future. His goons, known as Toadies, attacked the stork that was delivering the babies to their parents, but only managed to get Baby Luigi. As a result, the Yoshis needed to rescue them so they could reunite the baby brothers and send them to their parents safely while dealing with the Koopa Army led by Kamek at that time.
The first area is a long hallway with many doors to different rooms to enter, as the player needs to pick the correct pathway if they want to exit the area while dealing with various enemies, such as Shy Guys carrying spears, Piranha Plants, Koopa Troopas, Fangs, and Boos. Once the player picks the correct passway, they need to pick up the bomb to blow up the green Yoshi egg blocks that are blocking the door to the next area.
The last area has the player exploring around the fortress full of drawings on the walls while crossing a small bridge underneath the lava full of Podoboos coming out and dealing with additional enemies, such as Sumo Bros and the living spikeball creatures known as Tap-Taps. There is a hidden room with a 3-up moon if they use the spring to get up to that door. Near the end of this area, the player needs to hit a P-Switch to cross over to the pitfall and jump on some rotating platforms as they land on a checkpoint next to the red door that leads them to the boss room.
Boom-Boom is fought once again and after his defeat, the level is cleared as the player goes to Savage Stretch next.
(Note: Boom-Boom is only a placeholder as he will be replaced by a new boss in the future update of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion.)
Development History[]
Originally, the level was not based upon Yoshi's Island, but rather, a typical fortress seen like the ones from SMB3. As Shodian created the level, someone on the forums suggested that it be reskinned into a Yoshi's Island fortress, so that it would have a theme, contrasting its original design.
