Original Appearance Super Mario Bros. (1985)

Classic Mario is a secret playable character in Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. He is a throwback to the original NES-era Mario.

Gameplay[]

Classic Mario is a faithful recreation of the original 8-bit Mario from Super Mario Bros. That means he uses the original sound effects, the duck swim glitch, and has stiff controls. He's meant to be a novelty character to make the game more difficult.

Classic Mario only uses Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and Raccoon Leafs as power-ups aside from stackable power-ups and power-downs. Fire Flowers and Raccoon Leafs replace other power-ups that would normally appear in stages. When Classic Mario takes damage in any form, he reverts back to Small Mario.

Classic Luigi[]

Classic Luigi is also a playable character. Classic Luigi plays akin to how he did in the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 (Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels outside of Japan) and games following it by having a higher jump, but reduced traction and slightly slower speed.

Level Controls[]

See Basic Controls which goes over Map and standard Level Controls.

Below are non-standard controls specific to Classic Mario and Classic Luigi in their Initial forms (except when otherwise noted). Parenthesis indicate optional.

Action Key[s] Description
Running Hold LEFT or RIGHT + RUN Classic Mario/Luigi moves in the Left or Right direction at a faster speed. Classic Mario/Luigi can jump farther and higher while Running.
Higher/Further Jump [Running] + Press JUMP Classic Mario/Luigi jumps in the air at a higher height (and a further distance if Running).
Stomp [Movement] + Press JUMP Jumping on top of enemies ("stomping") as Classic Mario/Luigi hurts them, except for some enemies that can't be stomped on. Generally watch out for spiky headed enemies.

After 7 Jumps, or the RUN button is released, Mario will descend; continuously pressing JUMP while slow down the descent.

Trivia[]

  • Classic Mario was the first player to receive a clone player, Classic Luigi. At the time, the purpose was to sneak in the Luigi palette as an alternative outfit choice for Mario. But due to several requests that Roll use HP instead of outfit-based damage, Proto Man was added shortly after using the system made to create Classic Luigi; thus, the clone system was born.
    • Later, the MKF forum community voted by an over 80% landslide to give Classic Luigi gameplay akin to his Super Mario All-Stars play mechanics, making him a true clone.
