Assist Items are special items that can aid the player in completing the level in ways that normal power-ups can't. They can only be purchased at a Shop or found in hard/very hard stages or collecting eight red coins in specific stages but the player can have up to ten of them at one time. The player can only have one copy of each item at a time. All characters share Assist Items with no character-specific ones.

It doesn't protect from instant-kill objects or enemies (such as Dopefish, Skewer, Mad Grinder, or Foreman Spike) or from certain hazards (such as lava or acid), however. Blue Herb | $550 | A Resident Evil herb that protects the player from Lil Reaper, Poison Mushrooms, and Rupoors. This item isn't lost on death. |
Beat | $500 | Mega Man's robotic bird will swoop down and pull the player out of a pit if they fall in, as well as glide them for a short distance to reach safety. This item isn't lost on death. |
Spartan Forcefield | $1,000 | This Halo forcefield gives the player the ability of regeneration. If the player is damaged, they do not lose the assist item immediately. Instead, the assist item flashes and begins to regenerate. It takes seven seconds for the assist item to fully regenerate. the player cannot drop an reserve item until it regenerated, the player must run away from dangers and wait until it regenerated. If a character is hit while the regeneration process is in progress, then the character will lose the assist item. |
Item Drone | $900 | A Mega Man flying party ball that gives rewards when the player hits a checkpoint, such as a super mushroom, weak power-up, or rupees. This item is lost on death. |
Hand of Midas | $360 | Enemies can drop coins coins and rupees when defeated while the player has this DOTA 2 item. This item is lost on death. |
Anti-Knockback | $900 | This item allows characters with knockback, such as Arthur, Link or Sonic, to not fall back as hard if they are hit by an enemy or hazard. This does not apply to Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, or Game Boy Mario (This was also true for Classic Mario & Classic Luigi before their removal from the game). Useful in most hard stages and World 3 levels. This item is lost on death. |
Super Strength | $250 | Decreases the cooldown time for picking up vegetables and SMB2-style enemies (such as Shy Guys). Allows the player to pickup brick blocks. This item is lost on death. |
Gem of True Sight | $600 | This DOTA 2 item allows the player to detect red coins easier, as well as invisible blocks and objects. This item is lost on death. |
Heart Tank | $2,000 | This Mega Man X item allows the player to take three extra hits until death. Enabled by default in World 3. Useful for hard stages. This item is lost on death. |
Divine Bunkie | $1,200 | Summons a Castelvania glowing bat familiar that follows the player around. Fires a seeking projectile at enemies in the direction the player is facing when pressing RUN . This item is lost on death.

Yoshi Companion | $1,500 | Hatches a Yoshi that is happy to assist and follow the player. In the meantime, he will be spawning eggs you can throw at enemies. There are three types of eggs he can spawn:

Removed Items[]
- Protective Crystal: A barrier from Kid Icarus, a transparent shield surrounds the player's character, giving them protection against weak projectiles. It stays with the player's character until death. Useful for some hard stages. This item was removed in the v0.91 update of MKF.
Trivia[]
- Yoshi also appears in the long cancelled sister-project Super Mario Fusion Revival. In SMFR, Yoshi can be ridden as he traditionally can in the Mario series.
